CMT Next Women of Country alumni Kelleigh Bannen has been stoking her creative fires this year. In addition to performing at events like ACM’s Party for a Cause and penning her lifestyle blog This Nashville Life, the Tennessee native has been busy in the studio recording her new EP, Cheap Sunglasses, which drops on June 17.
“To me, Cheap Sunglasses just feels like a celebration—musically and emotionally,” says Kelleigh to Nash Country Daily. “It’s tough and it’s hopeful. A step forward and a new chapter.”
Following a string of one-off singles over the past few years under the EMI Records banner, Kelleigh is issuing Cheap Sunglasses independently. The EP features five tunes, including the upbeat, spirited “All Good Things,” which Kelleigh co-wrote with Forest Whitehead (Kelsea Ballerini’s “Peter Pan”) and Scott Stepakoff (Kip Moore’s “Mary Was the Marrying Kind”).
“‘All Good Things’ came from a quote that I’d seen,” says Kelleigh. “I brought in the beginning of that chorus to my write with Forest Whitehead and Scott Stepakoff and we wrote it over the course of a couple days. I even played it for fans on Periscope before it was finished and asked their opinion. I love the spirit of that song. It’s kind of a declaration about how I want to live life.”
