RaeLynn Takes a Turn at Bat for a Good Cause

RaeLynn Takes a Turn at Bat for a Good Cause

RaeLynn doesn’t fancy herself an athlete. “I’m pretty good if I put my mind to it, but I just don’t think I’m going to put my mind to it,” she says. “I loved dodgeball and kickball [as a kid] but I went with music, clearly.”

In preparation for her participation in the City of Hope Celebrity Softball Game, held on June 7 during CMA festival week, RaeLynn teamed up with the Nashville Sounds, Music City’s minor league baseball team, to get some practice in before the big game.

RaeLynn made sure to get some good advice from the Sounds players and, of course, her husband Josh. “They told me to put some hip into it,” she says. “My husband played baseball [in] the minor leagues, for the Cubs, and he told me ‘Just keep your eye on the ball.’ So that’s what I did, I don’t know where the ball went, but I kept my eye on the ball.”

When it comes to playing in the big game, RaeLynn is going to enjoy her time on the field. “I got to [play in the game] when I was 18, about 4 years ago, and I’m so excited to be asked back. It was one of my favorite things to do during CMA week. You know, we get so caught up in so many different things so to be able to just be on the field and hang out with artists and fans, it’s definitely a fun thing to do.”

The Celebrity Softball Game will benefit the City of Hope organization, which researches treatments for cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases. Jake Owen, Lauren Alaina, Vince Gill, Scotty McCreery, David Nail, Charles Esten, Chris Lane, Bret Michaels, Mickey Guyton and LOCASH are some of the artists that have been announced as participants on June 7, with more artists to be announced in the coming weeks.

During her time on the field, the “God Made Girls” singer indulged us by playing a little game we like to call Name That Rule. We gave RaeLynn five obscure sports rules and asked her to decide if it was a baseball, football or basketball rule. Watch the video and see just how well she did.
