It was an evening of outstanding performances on The Voice, Monday night (May 9). The Top 9 contestants took to the stage to battle it out, including Mary Sarah who performed her version of Maren Morris’ “My Church,” Hannah Huston who nailed Jessie Ware’s “Say You Love Me,” Laith Al-Saadi added a stirring rendition of Bob Seger’s “We’ve Got Tonight” and Shalyah Fearing performed Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come.” Even Florida Georgia Line made a guest appearance to perform their latest single, “H.O.L.Y.”
But it was Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani’s performance of “Go Ahead and Break My Heart” that everyone was waiting to see. About an hour and a half into the show, Blake took to the stage alone, with guitar in hand. As he kicked off the first verse, Gwen slowly sauntered out onto the stage, gazing lovingly at her new beau. The two went on to sing the song standing face to face, seemingly oblivious to the others in the room. With lines like the last thing I needed was to fall in love and how’d you get me so into you, it was clearly a case of life imitating art or was it the other way around?
You can tune into the Voice every Monday and Tuesday night on NBC to see Blake work his magic. “Go Ahead and Break My Heart” (feat. Gwen) is on Blake’s upcoming album, If I’m Honest, which will be released on May 20.
Watch as the couple looks to be falling deeper in love right in front of our eyes.
