Jennifer Nettles, Gerald McRaney and Ricky Schroder Join Cast of Dolly Parton Movie

It would have been enough just to make a movie about Dolly Parton’s childhood, but we have just learned that Jennifer Nettles will star as Dolly’s mother, Avie Lee Parton, in the film Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors. Jennifer recently starred as Roxie Hart in the musical Chicago, her Broadway debut.

The movie is not about Dolly’s whole life, but instead covers incidents that occurred in the Parton family around the time the country star was just 9 years old.

Gerald McRaney (Deadwood, Major Dad, Designing Women) has signed on to play Grandpa Jake Owens in the film and Ricky Schroder (The Champ, NYPD Blue, 24) will portray Dolly’s father, Lee Parton. Previously we shared that Alyvia Lind will appear as young Dolly.

Dolly Parton serves as an executive producer on the movie, along with Sam Haskell. No broadcast date has been announced for the film yet, but it will air on NBC.
