We know Jennifer Nettles can sing, and we’ve seen in some of her music videos that she has a flair for the dramatic. Now Jen is pairing the two skill sets to make her debut on Broadway as Roxie Hart in the musical Chicago.
J-Net made the announcement this morning (Dec. 9) on Today, and when Matt Lauer asked her if the prospect of playing a Broadway stage made her nervous, she replied, “This one makes me on fire. This one makes me thrilled. Nobody phones it in on Broadway. In other parts of the industry you can be Auto-Tuned and fixed up so your personality and looks can carry you. Not on Broadway. Not on that stage.”
Previous “Roxies” include Liza Minnelli, Renée Zellweger, Brooke Shields, Melanie Griffith and Christie Brinkley.
Chicago: The Musical, starring Jennifer Nettles, runs Feb. 2 to March 29 at New York’s Ambassador Theatre.
